Year 2 Transition

A very warm welcome to all of our Year 2 parents.  Obviously all of the information below would usually be communicated during our meeting at the start of July, but this website page seems to be the best way of getting everything to you (with the added bonus of you not having to listen to me for an hour!!).  Below, you will see a lot of links to different pages on the website, to save you trawling through everything, plus links to the Year 2 YouTube channel and some other documents that you might find useful.  The most important thing throughout all of the transition is if you have any questions about anything then please email me on: and I will get back to you with the answer.  We are so looking forward to welcoming your children to Carbeile and we know they will love every minute of their time with us, where they will certainly, Learn, Grow and Achieve!

Check out the Year 2 YouTube channel for the class videos and virtual tour of the school from me.

Firstly, have a read of some of the positive comments from parents and members of the community.  We are so proud of our Golden Nuggets.

Our prospectus is also an important document to read as it should answer most questions about life at Carbeile.  You will receive a paper copy of this at some point but for now, this is the best place to get all of the information you need.

Meet our amazing staff

How do I contact the school?

Please phone our main reception on: 01752 812474

Email reception at:

Or email Mr Hamlyn at:

What is uniform policy at CJS (including PE kit)?

See Uniform page of the prospectus

When/where will I be able to buy school uniform?

You can buy uniform from the school office. We will let you know when this will start.

How do I find out what sports team will my child be in (and therefore what colour P.E top they require)?

Teams have been done, TNIS will post this on their website for information.

When do after-school clubs take place?

Clubs take place every other half term on a Thursday afternoon between 3.15pm and 4.15pm. Details about clubs available and how to sign up will be handed out in due course.

If my child will be bringing a packed lunch, what is CJS policy on packed lunch contents?

We do not check packed lunch contents though we do encourage a balanced diet with a savoury main, fruit and something sweet maybe.  Crisps and chocolate are fine in lunch but not for tuck.

Where do I drop off and pick up my child?

Please drop your child to the year 3 playground (or at the gate to the playground). A teacher will be on duty from 08:30am every day. Please collect your child from outside their classroom. The teacher will send one child out at a time. The main gates are locked to vehicles at pick-up and drop-off times for 20 minutes each time. There are no vehicles permitted on the drive, for children’s safety, between 8.30-8.50am and 3.10-3.30pm. The only exceptions are emergency vehicles.

What are the drop off and pick up times?

Drop off between 8.30am and 8.50am. Collection is at 3.15pm.

What do I need to do if I would like my child to walk home on their own or meet me outside the school property?

You will need to collect and complete a form from reception.

If my child is entitled to a free school meal, how do I register for this?

A form needs to be collected and returned to reception. FSM doesn’t automatically transfer from infants to juniors, you need to apply. Unfortunately, it will not be backdated, you will have to give pack lunch or pay for dinners until it comes through.

What do I need to do if my child is absent?

Call school reception as soon as you know that your child will not be attending. Messages can be left before 8.30am.

Where is lost property?

Please go to reception through the main entrance.

What homework will my child be expected to do?

Log ins for Mathletics, Bug Club and TT Rock Stars will be stapled into your child’s reading record. Mathletics home learning will be set each week. TT Rock Stars is for timetable practice. Bug Clubs gives online access to books at your child’s reading level. We will reward children who record that they have read at least three times a week (either a book given by the teacher or a book read from Bug Club). There will be selection of Topic home learning to complete each half term.

How do we pay for school dinners and trips?

All trips are paid via Parentpay, cash is only used for disco tickets and mufti. This method is also used for school dinner payments. Parentpay logins are given out within the first couple of days, when everyone is on roll.
