Empowering creativity today to inspire a more imaginative tomorrow.

To inspire and nurture creativity, by providing children with the opportunity to explore their imagination while developing key skills in observation, technique, and expression. By engaging with a variety of materials, methods, and cultural influences, children will build confidence in their artistic abilities and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Take a look at how children’s learning in Art progresses as they move from Year 3 to Year 6. All lessons follow the ACCESS ART Primary Curriculum and have been carefully considered and planned to cater for the learning needs of all children.

We are in the process of changing our Art to the ACCESS ART primary curriculum and began teaching this exciting curriculum part way through last year. Look what we have covered so far, the impact has already been amazing with children being inspired by a variety of artists they have studied and taking ownership of their creative journeys.

The answers to all of our ‘Big Questions’ form our Forever Facts. This is the knowledge that we think our children need to remember in future years, well beyond when they have left their year group and when they have left Carbeile Junior School. We have ‘Total Recall’ in all lessons, quizzing the children about past weeks, past topics and even past years learning.
We are introducing the new Access Art curriculum to give children more opportunities to explore and develop their own creativity. It encourages self-expression, experimentation, and problem-solving through a wide range of techniques and materials. By focusing on individuality and creative thinking, we aim to inspire confidence and a love for art. This approach ensures all children can develop their artistic skills in a way that is personal, meaningful, and engaging.
Art I pupils are also challenged and inspired through specialized art activities and opportunities that nurture their skills, creativity, and artistic growth. Every year, Art I pupils participate in the Christmas Tree Festival at St James Church as well as other extra curricula art activities.
An integral part of the Access Art curriculum is talking points around a variety of artists, techniques and the children’s own work, This provides numerous opportunities for the children to develop their oracy skills.
As part of our half termly home learning sheets, there might be an element of Art linked to one of the tasks. Please help encourage your child’s enthusiasm and enjoyment of Art by supporting them with this home learning.

Our new Access Art curriculum nurtures creativity, confidence, and self-expression in every child. By exploring different techniques and materials, children develop fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deeper appreciation for art. They learn to think critically, evaluate their own work, and celebrate artistic diversity. Art also enhances well-being, cultural awareness, and communication skills, ensuring children leave primary school with a lifelong appreciation for creativity and its role in the world around them.

Assessment focuses on developing each child’s understanding of art rather than just mastering specific techniques. Self and peer assessment play a key role, encouraging children to reflect on their work, give constructive feedback, and appreciate different creative approaches. This helps them build confidence, critical thinking skills, and a deeper appreciation of artistic expression. The emphasis is on personal growth, creativity, and the ability to communicate ideas through art.
